Environmental Education Spread In Schools
Participatory practicalising of environmental education in schools for the year 2014 was recently launched at the Government Primary School (GPS) Bokwaongo, Buea, South West Region, by Wewuley Consultancy (WECONS).
GPS Bokwaongo is one of the proposed schools on the National Reforestation Campaign with focus on the fight against global warming, climate change, and to raise awareness on environmental protection through environmental education periods in schools.
This is the initiative to increase awareness and skills in natural resource management, conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem amongst pupils and students to ensure vital transfer of environmental education and culture from generation to generation.
WECONS Coordinator, Ndumbe Ekema Stephen, reiterated the need for creating an orchard and market gardening, tree nursery and planting of endemic, medicinal and environmental friendly trees in the compound of GPS Bokwaongo.
In this respect, the school administration would raise money, which might lead to a drop in the amount of the PTA levy on pupils. This idea was welcomed by the head teacher of the school, Nalova Joan, and the teachers who promised to assist WECONS in the best way they can.
WECONS, however, expressed worry about stray goats that are likely to destroy the nursery if they are not controlled by the villagers who own them.
The Chief of Naanga village, Njoh Fritz Esaka, who took part in the planting of trees, said he would handle the issue of stray goats with strictness.
