Ensuring Accident-Free Work Environments

In an industrial setting, nothing is more important than the health and safety of workers.

In 2012 alone in sub-Saharan Africa, 1.1 million workers suffered from a work-related illness, 173 workers died in harness, 111.000 others suffered various injuries and 27 million working days were lost due to work-related illness and occupational hazards, the International Labour Organisation reported.

Alarming as these statistics are, Cameroon is entering into mega industrial projects such as the Lom Pangar and Memve’ele hydro-electricity projects, the Kribi and Limbe deep seaports, the Logbaba gas plant and the mining sector, very much aware of the attendant occupational hazards. In reshaping the attitudes of workers as far as accident-free work environments are concerned, no other group has gone further to keep the air workers breathe clean, the areas they work in safe and healthy than NickCery Group, which has been working relentlessly to curb industrial accidents, ill health and injury especially in the oil and gas sector in the country.

Between 2006 and 2012, NickCery Group reduced work-related accidents amongst its clients by 85%. At first, work-related accidents ranged between 52 and 73 per year. But it dropped between 5 and 12 in 2012, thanks to NickCery’s rigorous health and safety management programme. It is NickCery’s successes in cutting back industrial occupational hazards that the European Business Assembly honoured the company with an award early this year.

The Best Enterprise Award went to NickCery’s President and CEO, Chris C. Yok. He received the award at the Institute of Directors in London, UK.

The company was selected by the Socrates Committee based on the effective occupational health, safety and environment programme maintained by the NickCery Group in 2012, plus the intellectual innovations it developed and its outstanding customer focus policy in the field of products/services quality.

Handing over the award, European Business Assembly CEO, John Netting, praised the NickCery Group for its transparency and compliance with requirements of total quality, proven track record of customer satisfaction and a high level of social focus.

NickCery Group International Services Plc is a subsidiary of NickCery Conglomerate in Houston Texas, USA. The company specializes in the provision of manpower and safety trainings to onshore and off-shore installations worldwide.
