2016 ERuDeF Institute Environmental Education Award Winners Known
Chan Briyan of GHS Buea Town, Malike Delphine of UB, Teke Theodore of UB, Awah Dadege of GBHS Limbe and Ashunobi Fideles of Charity Comprehensive Academy have been shortlisted as the 2016 winners of the ERuDeF Institute of Biodiversity and Non-Profit Studies (ERuDeF Institute) International Environmental Education Awards (EIEEA), respectively.
This information was made known by the Assistant Director of ERuDeF Institute, Mr. Elvis Ngwa, in a review meeting that took place recently at the ERuDeF Institute in Mile 18,Buea.
Dubbed “Climate Change in Changing Times” this edition of the award was aimed at broadening the knowledge of young Cameroonians on the effects of climate change; educating them on mitigation and adaptation measures while encouraging their participation in the fight against climate change. The award targeted Cameroon high school and university students.
Launched last November 2015,Competitors were required to identify glaring effects of climate change in Cameroon citing real examples and suggesting solutions to further fight climate change. Other climate change concepts like REDD and REDD+ and their role in fighting climate change also formed part of the award quiz.
.According to the Assistant Director of ERuDeF Institute, Mr. Elvis Ngwa, a total of 16 persons contested for the award with Chan Briyam, Malike Delphine and Teke Theodore emerging as best three with a score of 87%, 84% and 79 % respectively. A score, which according to him was impressive and indicative of the students’ determination to be future environmental leaders.
According to a press release, which officially launched this award, these laureates will be awarded prizes to the tune of 50,000 fcfa, 30,000fcfaand 10,000fcfa for first, second and third positions respectively. Meanwhile the fourth and fifth winners will each receive a prize worth of 5000cfa and 3000cfa respectively. Compensatory prizes will also be given
These prizes will be handed over at an award ceremony that will be organized at the ERuDeF Institute campus in the weeks ahead.
The award ceremony will also see the launching of the 2017 edition of the ERuDeF Institute International Environmental Education Days Award.
